Dharma Teachings from Lord Jigten Sumgon - September 25th, 26th and 27th
RigDzin Dharma Center is honored to welcome Khenchen Konchog Gyaltshen Rinpoche back to Albuquerque for three days to teach on two of Lord Jigten Sumgon's profound Dharma texts: A Compendium of Drikung Kyobpa's Essential Oral Instructions on Loving Kindness, and A letter to Drakpa Dorje on the Stages of Mahamudra Practice.
A Compendium of Drikung Kyobpa's Essential Oral Instructions on Loving Kindness explores development of lovingkindness as a mind-training practice with a culmination in samadhi, a form of deep meditative absorption. The training begins with recognition of the profound kindness of one's own mother, using this in contemplation to awaken a vivid, heartfelt experience of lovingkindness, and then progressively expanding from the mother to all beings everywhere. The teaching distills the practice into four essential points: 1) the cause of loving kindness, 2) it's essence, 3) it's enhancement, and 4) it's activity. Through this practice we gain a vivid experience of loving kindness, a powerful transformative force, bringing benefit, protection, and ultimately happiness to oneself and others.
A letter to Drakpa Dorje on the Stages of Mahamudra Practice, presents a profound and precise description of the preparatory practice, the stages of meditation practice, common pitfalls and misunderstandings, the final revelation of Mahamudra in meditation, and other practical instructions. Dharma Lord Jigten Sumgon clearly reveals the supreme path is Mahamudra—the nature of mind itself, qualified by abandoning apprehension of the five aggregates, the elements, sense sources, sense objects and an apprehending subject. In a moment of nonconceptual wisdom, emptiness and Mahamudra are realized as inseparable—the mind's own primordial awareness. Rather than grasping at or manipulating the mind, one directly recognizes its primordially unborn nature as emptiness.
This teaching weekend is a rare opportunity to receive pith instructions from one of the foremost scholars and teachers of the Drikung Kagyu tradition today. These teachings may deepen your understanding, improve your practice, and change your life. Khenchen Rinpoche graciously provided this teaching text in advance. Download it here.
