Mahamudra Meditation Retreat - September 5th, 6th and 7th
RigDzin Dharma is honored to welcome Venerable Drupon Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche back to Albuquerque for three days to lead the sangha in a Mahamudra meditation retreat September 5th, 6th, and 7th! Drupon Rinpoche will teach on Mahamudra meditation and discuss obstacles, potential errors, and the experiences that may arise during meditation practice.
Mahamudra practice reveals the very nature of our mind and of all phenomena. It embraces the totality of experience, the all-encompassing reality from which there is no escape or exception, and points directly to mind’s true nature. To practice Mahamudra is to experience our mind completely free and joyful, no matter what life brings us. Through Mahamudra practice and meditation, we can relax into the emptiness, clarity, and awareness of ever-present Buddha wisdom.
Mahamudra, meaning “Great Seal,” is the direct realization of the mind’s inseparable emptiness and luminous awareness. Mahamudra training bypasses conceptual elaboration by pointing directly to the mind’s nature through meditation and use of “pointing-out instructions.” The path emphasizes settling the mind via both calm-abiding (shamatha) and penetrating insight (vipashyana) meditation practices, then resting without contrivance in natural awareness. Unique to Mahamudra is its integration of sutra and tantra, uniting formless meditation with, when needed, deity yoga—making enlightenment both a sudden recognition and a gradual deepening.
The Tibetan Kagyu Mahamudra lineage begins with Vajradhara, the primordial Buddha, who entrusted the complete realization of Mahamudra to the Indian Mahasiddha Tilopa. Tilopa transmitted these teachings to his disciple Naropa, who systematized them into the “Six Yogas of Naropa.” Naropa’s principal Tibetan disciple, Marpa Lotsawa, a gifted translator and practitioner, brought the teachings from India to Tibet, passing them to Milarepa, the great yogi-poet. Milarepa’s student Gampopa synthesized Milarepa’s experiential path with the existing monastic traditions, giving rise to the Mahamudra instructions and trainings as we receive them today.
This retreat is a rare opportunity to receive pith instructions from an extraordinary and highly accomplished meditation master. These are teachings not to be missed! Drupon Rinpoche will teach from Lord Jigten Sumgon's text: Introduction to Mahamudra, the Co-emergent Unification. Download it here.
