Vairocana Empowerment
Emaho!
Buddha Vairocana, known in Tibetan as Sangay Namparnanzad ("perfect knowledge of all things as they manifest"), is white in color, symbolizing all colors of light and all Buddhas. Often called the Supreme Buddha, he embodies the wisdom of Shunyata (emptiness) and represents the Dharmakaya – the unmanifested, free from characteristics and distinctions.
Vairocana's hands are in the "enlightenment" or "turning the wheel of dharma" mudra, symbolizing the teaching of the dharma to remove ignorance and defilements. This mudra forms a wheel with the thumbs and index fingers touching at the tips, representing the Buddha's teachings on what to abandon and adopt on the path to enlightenment.
Khenpo Tsultrim Tenzin will bestow the Kunrig (Tibetan), Sarvavid Vairocana (Sanskrit), empowerment and provide sadhana teachings during our Summer 2024 Retreat! Kunrig (Sarvavid Vairocana) is a Yoga Tantra Deity known as the "King of Deities" for purifying the lower realms. Even if someone has already been born in the lower realms, performing Kunrig practice or puja on their behalf will liberate them from the lower realms.
Sadhana Instruction & Teachings
The story behind the genesis of this practice connects to Indra, King of the Devas. One of his subjects, a deva, died and was reborn in a hell realm. King Indra was lost on what to do to help her, so he turned to Lord Buddha for assistance. Lord Buddha manifested as the deity Kunrig and conferred the practice of the Kunrig Jangwa to liberate the deva from the lower realms.
Khenpo will lead us through Uprooting Samsara, The Regular Practice of Kunrig (Sarvavid Vairocana), the short sadhana by Ngulchu Dharmabhadra supplemented by Jhado Rinpoche. Khenpo also will teach on how to perform mudras associated with the sadhana. You can download the sadhana here.
The myriad and seemingly unending challenges inundating the globe right now can overwhelm and reduce us to despair. On the final day of the retreat, Khenpo will give teachings on the transformation of suffering. These teachings will offer practical guidance on how we can transform not only our own suffering but the suffering of all sentient beings. This is the work of all Buddhist practitioners right now, and especially those who have taken the Bodhisattva vow.
